00:00
Julia
Foreign.
00:05
Kieran
Welcome back to that's what they Said, an educationally conversational podcast where we address all the things that aren't in the college brochure.
00:12
Julia
Hey, guys, we're so excited to be back. Episode four. Welcome back. La la la la. Me win me win me when me.
00:24
Kieran
Welcome to episode four.
00:25
Julia
Oh, what's it called? Halloweekend. Halloweekend. Yep, yep, yep. We're pre recording this because we have a special guest with us for this episode. Guys, I'd love for all you to meet Frank. Frank, say hi.
00:39
Frank
Hello, everybody.
00:41
Kieran
Yay.
00:43
Julia
Frank. Give us a little spiel about who you are.
00:45
Frank
Yeah, well, my name is Frank.
00:47
Julia
Right.
00:48
Frank
Okay. I am a senior at uncw, majoring in psychology.
00:54
Julia
He's so cool. He's so cool.
00:56
Frank
Yeah. Oh, thanks. Thanks. And yeah, I'm really happy to be here.
01:00
Julia
Good.
01:01
Frank
I have known Ju since about what, 2021ish? It's been a good. It's been a long time.
01:10
Julia
It's been a minute. Yeah.
01:12
Frank
And then through Ju, I met Kieran.
01:15
Julia
I've known Kieran from, like, two months.
01:18
Kieran
It's been long. I met you, like, spring breaks, like, April, March.
01:23
Frank
Yeah.
01:24
Julia
Oh. So.
01:25
Kieran
So, like, we go back.
01:28
Frank
We clicked pretty quickly.
01:29
Julia
We did.
01:29
Kieran
So, like, it's basically actually been longer than, you know, Julia. Like, we're just, like, really close.
01:32
Frank
I mean, that's what they said to name drop the pod.
01:38
Julia
Right, right, right. So we're very glad to have Frank here. Yeah, I'm like, so excited. We were talking earlier and he was nervous.
01:46
Frank
I was, well, because, I mean, I don't know, I really enjoy the episode so far and I'm just happy to, you know, contribute this time around.
01:55
Julia
We're happy this time around. Yeah, we're excited to have a new perspective in the mix. Even though we low key think the same way. But that's fine.
02:06
Frank
We don't want to get too crazy.
02:08
Julia
All right, we're gonna start with High Low Buffalo, like we always do, as.
02:12
Kieran
In the one time.
02:13
Julia
Right, right, right. Yes. Okay, Kieran, hit it.
02:16
Frank
Okay.
02:17
Kieran
High Low Buffalo. My. Okay, my low is that I bought these new, like, Keurig pods, like the food lion brand, and they're salted caramel. So I was like, oh, these about to be buzz. Because one thing about me is I always put, like, caramel in my coffee when I like to, like, sweeten it, and it was not good. It actually just tasted, like, so artificial. I thought I was drinking, like, straight syrup and I was like, oh, okay. Perfect. So I feel good about this. My high is that I, like, went to class, like, one day this week. Just like, with fall break and, like, my schedule and everything. I. Yeah, all. Also, my mom baked pumpkin chocolate chip cookies last night.
02:50
Julia
Yes. She's so yummy.
02:52
Kieran
I love pumpkin chocolate chip cookies so much. Like, my. One of my favorite things about fall is the food. Because me and pumpkin chocolate chip are real tight.
03:00
Julia
That's so fire. I love, like, that combination is so good.
03:03
Frank
So good.
03:05
Kieran
My buffalo. What did I do this week? What did I do for my buffalo? Is that I went pumpkin picking with my family. So this past weekend. So now my apartment has pumpkins in it. Yeah. And I'm very excited about it.
03:22
Frank
Did you, like, carve them or paint them yet or.
03:24
Kieran
No, they're just, like, decorative ones. We, like, went to this, like, pumpkin patch. It's. We went to jeans, like, so they also do strawberries. So they're jeans. Strawberry farm. But then you can also, like, year round, they, like, change the produce. So not that means anything to you guys, but. So jeans, right? Yes.
03:39
Julia
Love them.
03:40
Kieran
Shout out. You just go and you just, like, grab them and they have, like, the white ones, the green ones, like, all the different kinds. So I got like three. So now my apartment's, like, super decked out.
03:49
Julia
Yes. Three whole pumpkins. Feeling good.
03:53
Kieran
What about you guys?
03:54
Julia
Frank?
03:55
Frank
Oh, me? Okay, well, my high. We went to the state fair yesterday.
04:01
Julia
We were, like, low key. I. We got. We were there for an hour and I was like, well, I'm about done.
04:06
Frank
Time to go.
04:06
Julia
But then we got kind of like a second wind because we ate so much food. It was like. Okay. We like, have.
04:11
Frank
We needed that energy boost for sure.
04:12
Julia
Yeah, those cheese fries really boosted my energy.
04:15
Frank
Yeah, we know. Missed the dog bowl.
04:17
Julia
My cheese fries came in a freaking dog bowl.
04:19
Frank
It was like the most humbling thing, but it was also really funny.
04:24
Julia
And they were buss.
04:26
Frank
But yeah, my high, specifically about the state fair was that I really got my hands on. On a turkey leg this year.
04:32
Julia
Yes.As with every year.
04:34
Frank
I was gonna say it's like my annual turkey leg day. And I was just really excited too.
04:40
Julia
And I witnessed him eat that thing. He was like, he ate the entire thing.
04:45
Frank
Okay.
04:45
Kieran
A chow down.
04:46
Julia
He chow. He gnawed on that thing. Did you lick the bone clean? Oh, he did. It was clean.
04:51
Frank
I would not say it was clean, but it was. It was pretty much gone.
04:55
Kieran
A little spare, little sparse, maybe a little bit spores.
04:59
Frank
Yeah, that. That was a really fun day. Got to see the Family, you know, the spirit of the fall. Spirit. I love it. I really do. But, yeah, that was my high. And my low of the week is that I've had a really busy week. And usually I have all my midterms and final assignments before fall break, but this year, all my professors were like, well, hey, have a good break, but then you're going to be slammed.
05:22
Kieran
All the work, of course.
05:23
Frank
Right. So I would just, like, every day I was like, when is this going to end? And I would wake up the next day and be like, we're back again tomorrow.
05:33
Julia
It'll end in December. Then you'll start back over in January.
05:36
Frank
Exactly.
05:36
Julia
There you go. But, hey, you graduate this year here.
05:38
Kieran
So final fall semester.
05:40
Frank
Yay. All right. But, yes. This is exciting.
05:44
Kieran
So you're Buffalo, right? Right.
05:46
Frank
My Buffalo. This kind of ties in with the low. But it's anyway. Well, it's a high. Anyway, I did for one of my seminar classes, which, hey, Shout Out. It's a feminist psychology topical seminar. But the hook is that it's like, Taylor Swift themed.
06:03
Kieran
And this makes sense.
06:04
Frank
Okay.
06:04
Julia
Frank is, like, the world's biggest Taylor Swift fan.
06:07
Frank
I mean. Yeah, I'm proud of it.
06:10
Kieran
Now, I want to inquire about the new album. This came out because I have some friends who are big Swifties. So I had to listen to the whole album the day it came out.
06:16
Frank
Had to.
06:18
Kieran
Had to underline on the had all caps.
06:20
Julia
Right.
06:21
Kieran
I lowkey thought it sucked.
06:23
Frank
Tea. Okay.
06:25
Kieran
I thought it was awful. I mean, not that I like rock. Let's blow this popsicle stand. That's my favorite thing to say when I leave somewhere. Anyhow, I think that everything pre Look What You Made Me Do was fire. I rock with that era of T and then T. Swifty, me and my girl. And then afterwards, I just think it keeps going downhill. Like, I respect what she's putting out, but I just thought this album and all The Swifties on TikTok were agreeing with me.
06:50
Julia
Money grab.
06:51
Kieran
It was a bit of a money grab.
06:53
Frank
Okay. So I. Maybe it's just. Just because I love her. I didn't. I did enjoy the album, however. I. Is it my favorite? No. And I do. Like, I see some of the points people are making.
07:06
Kieran
Is your Girlboss too hard to stop?
07:10
Frank
I don't want to talk about that. Unfortunately.
07:12
Julia
I think a lot of the, like, tea about it is that everybody's like, it's not what she marketed it as. Cause, like, the. All the promo photo shoot stuff was like, oh. Like, she's like, Giving like jazz club a little bit like baddie showgirl. And then it played and it was.
07:25
Kieran
All the same, like, whisper singing.
07:29
Julia
Yeah.
07:30
Frank
Mm. I agree. And this is like kind of. I mean, not to get on a spiel here, but like the same thing with midnights.
07:35
Julia
Yeah.
07:35
Frank
Like, she marketed as like depressing. Like the nights at, like, dark. Like the nights that keep you wait. The things that keep you up at night.
07:43
Julia
Yeah.
07:43
Kieran
The nights that keep you awake and.
07:44
Frank
Then just like pop hits, which, hey, I'm here for. I love midnights, but it's just not. Not always the vibe was supposed to be.
07:51
Julia
Right.
07:52
Frank
Teach your own also. Give it a few months and everyone will, you know, come back around.
07:56
Kieran
It's gonna be the next target hit trust.
07:59
Frank
Unfortunately. Yeah.
08:00
Kieran
Anyway, anyhow, so your buffalo right back.
08:03
Frank
Back to the thing. My buffalo. We had. Me and a partner had to give a three hour class discussion. Isn't that great? We led the class for three hours, the whole three hours. And our topic, it was like. It was on sexuality. And it was.
08:21
Julia
Wait, wait, this is lowkey really funny because his partner were the only two men in that class and their teacher assigned them the topic of sexuality for their three hour speech.
08:31
Frank
Right. And I was like, you know, like, I said yes but why you say yes, that sort of thing. It was funny, but yeah. So it was a good old time, though. It was. I was. Let me tell you, the second I left that classroom, like a bus hit me. I was drained. I don't know how professors do that all day. Like talk for hours.
08:48
Julia
You talk for hours, all day.
08:50
Frank
Well, it's like stuff that I'm interested. Like, not that I'm not interested, but.
08:52
Kieran
It'S like, you know, casual conversation.
08:54
Frank
Exactly.
08:56
Julia
Got him.
08:57
Kieran
So Ju. High, low Buffalo.
08:59
Julia
High, low Buffalo. Well, I mean, I would say my high Loki was. This morning went to a coffee shop. We were staying with my grandparents. And by we, I mean me and Frank and Went to a coffee shop this morning and as some would say, we beat a dead horse that we have been beating for a long time.
09:15
Kieran
I love beating a dead horse.
09:17
Julia
You. You will understand because we. I beat the same horse with you. It's. It's about the banana bread guy.
09:23
Frank
Yeah.
09:23
Julia
I was giving another rant about how I don't understand the way that he thinks and the stuff that he says. And like. Anyway, so we just talked about that for like an hour and it was. It was a good old time.
09:34
Frank
You know, our. Our bats were held high.
09:35
Julia
Our bats were high.
09:36
Frank
Horse was laying on the ground right.
09:38
Julia
And names were being dropped. But it's like fine because nobody there knows us. So it's like chill. My low. I don't know. I lowkey had like anxious week this week because I have. Well, because state fair makes me anxious because it's so many people. And then also my contra dance is tonight because we're. See you all there. But yes, I've been like low key stressed about that because like the pianist for the band emailed me last night. I was like, hey, I've actually been vomiting all day so I won't be there but somebody else will be there. And I was like, so, okay, perfect. That's really great. That's exactly what I wanted. Buffalo, I would say is. Honestly, I have no idea. Oh, it's open house today. Which I didn't know.
10:25
Kieran
I don't even understand what that means.
10:26
Julia
I don't know. I like. Well, because we. I pulled up on campus this morning and I was like. So there are 8, 000 people here that are usually not here. Like these people are parents and their children. Like, what are we doing?
10:35
Kieran
I know there's people directing traffic. I was like, to what?
10:37
Julia
So yeah, like it's not a game. Yeah. Like nobody wants to go to fountain that bad. Like I don't understand what the problem is. But yeah. So that was my buffalo. I think I like can't remember.
10:48
Kieran
So same.
10:49
Julia
Yeah, it's just that kind of day. And like also it's low key weird that we're in here. This room it's like so dark and outside it's like the middle of the day.
10:56
Kieran
Well, because normally we film at like 7pm Right. Like on Mondays or Tuesdays we film from 7 to 10.
11:01
Frank
Yeah.
11:01
Julia
Because we're busy during the day.
11:03
Frank
Right.
11:04
Julia
It's true. All right. So high low Buffalo Slay. Now we're moving on to Halloweekend, which is the topic of the episode. This is. I feel like, okay, what Halloweekend. Is. Is the weekend of Halloween. Wow. Who would have thought? What? Oh my God.
11:19
Frank
Hit the nail on the head with that one.
11:20
Kieran
I'm gobsmacked.
11:21
Julia
Right. But like last year it was weird because Halloween was in the middle of the week. So everybody.
11:25
Kieran
I forgot about that.
11:26
Julia
Right? Everybody was like, Thursday. Yeah. People were like, is it the weekend before? That's Halloweekend. Or the weekend after? So obviously the solution is you party. Both, obviously. Right. But like this year, Halloween will be the day this episode comes out. And it's on a Friday.
11:39
Kieran
So we're about to turn up.
11:42
Julia
It's like both Halloweekends combined into one, so it's, like, super Halloweekend.
11:45
Kieran
Super mega, ultra Halloweekend.
11:49
Julia
So in college, Halloweekend is, like, the biggest party weekend of the year.
11:53
Kieran
Yeah.
11:54
Julia
Yeah. Because, like, after this, after Halloweekend, it's like, you gotta lock in.
11:58
Kieran
Yeah. For, like, four weeks, and then.
12:00
Julia
And then it's Christmas.
12:01
Frank
You're gone.
12:01
Julia
Well, it's winter break, and then, like.
12:03
Frank
The next, I guess, bigger party is spring break. Yeah.
12:07
Kieran
Like the weekend before spring break.
12:08
Julia
Yeah. And that's, like, not even a party on campus.
12:09
Frank
Yeah. Cause people are, like, going places. It's, like, not centered to here.
12:13
Julia
Yeah.
12:13
Kieran
I'm trying to think if there's really. I don't really think there's any other.
12:15
Frank
Holidays that are big, like, maybe St. Patty's Day. But that's just, like, beer, like, bars and stuff like that.
12:21
Julia
Yeah.
12:21
Kieran
But I feel like anybody has an excuse for a party. Easter. Who's gonna turn out my little chickies?
12:26
Julia
Like, oh, everybody dresses as eggs.
12:29
Kieran
Yeah, me when I'm an egg?
12:31
Frank
God, it's Flag Day, y'all.
12:32
Julia
All.
12:32
Frank
Crack one.
12:33
Kieran
Yes.
12:34
Julia
Crack one open. Okay, so I want to talk about what we plan on wearing this year.
12:39
Kieran
Yes.
12:39
Julia
And, like, well, because I personally will be going out Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday night, same. So that means three costumes, obviously. I. My main costume I've been working on. I'm gonna be a mermaid. Okay. Because I have a mermaid tattoo now, guys, so it's really fire. Thank you. I got this, like, skirt that looks like a crocheted net situation, and I cut us. I, like, cut the under skirt out so it's just the net. And then I cut a slit down the side, and then I sewed pearls all over it. It took me forever.
13:10
Julia
And then I found this other, like, floor length skirt that was, like, metallic blue, and I cut it to make it a mini skirt, and I used the rest of the fabric to make a top that I just sewed onto an old bra, which I then am gluing pearls onto that. Yeah. And, like, matches. Yeah. Yes. Yeah. And, like, there's a lot of ribbons and, like, chains and, like, pretty things on that. So that's my, like, main costume. And then I also thrifted, like, you know, like a 1920s, like, flapper dress.
13:36
Kieran
I have one of those.
13:37
Frank
Really?
13:38
Julia
Right. Of course.
13:39
Kieran
Fun fact. I have one, so if you need it.
13:41
Julia
Oh, thank you. Well, I thrifted a red one, and I also have this, like, corset that I bought, like, years ago that I've never worn, and it's red and black and has like, lace, you know, like, sleeves. So I was thinking I could do like a circus. Like. Yeah.
13:55
Kieran
Little ringleader.
13:56
Frank
Yeah.
13:56
Julia
Or something. So I, like, would wear the dress as a skirt and then of course, on top and then do, like, pigtails. Like, I was telling. I was telling somebody about this and they're like, oh, you'll be like, sexy Harley Quinn. I like that. I was like, okay, yes. I don't really watch the Harley Quinn universe stuff, but, like, sure.
14:10
Kieran
Dc.
14:11
Julia
Yeah, she slays.
14:12
Kieran
I was Harley Love, Margot Robbie coming out with a movie with Jacob Elordi.
14:18
Frank
Wither heights with Charli on the track.
14:21
Julia
What?
14:22
Frank
Yeah, yeah, she's doing the soundtrack.
14:23
Julia
Oh, my God. Did you see Trisha Paytas in Euphoria?
14:26
Kieran
Yes, I saw that yesterday and I actually jumped physically up. Like, I, like, I panicked. Like, I just was filled with such, like, what? Then my eye twitched and I went off the ground, my knees bent.
14:37
Frank
Cancel me if you want. I am just so happy for her.
14:39
Julia
She gets everything she could ever want. Like, it's so cool.
14:42
Frank
And I think, like, her. The trajectory of her life is on the upturn and, like, she's getting. I'm just so happy for her.
14:48
Julia
I.
14:49
Kieran
Well, what really killed me is when none of the original cast is returning.
14:54
Frank
Right.
14:54
Kieran
That sent me. Not according to the poster I read.
14:58
Frank
There's a. They made an earlier one, like, months ago. This was just, like, for the, like, side characters.
15:04
Kieran
Well, I saw that. Like, it's a returning cast and new cast and none of the.
15:07
Frank
I did see that.
15:08
Kieran
Okay. So I. I was like, right, okay.
15:11
Frank
Yeah, Trisha's the new Ru.
15:13
Kieran
I would scream like, no, she's actually gonna be Nate.
15:20
Frank
Yeah, she can shoot all the characters.
15:22
Kieran
Right? Of course. She's so many. Like, did you see her, like, Wendy's or Arby's, like, commercial? She dressed as, like.
15:28
Julia
No. What?
15:30
Kieran
I'll show you guys later because I have no idea where I would even remotely Google that. But she dressed up like this Arby's, like, outfit. Like, it was like, the uniform. Right. But then she also had, like, a wig on and, like, her male cosplay.
15:41
Frank
Okay.
15:41
Kieran
But then she was like, Arby's.
15:43
Julia
Wait, can I tell a little story about Arby's really quick? No Arby's. This is like, a few years ago.
15:51
Frank
Yeah.
15:51
Julia
Frank went through the Arby's drive thru before he was going to work. Then I made him drive by my house and sit on my porch to eat his lunch with me in the, like, 30 minutes he had before work. But he gets There and he said. So I went to the drive thru and the guy at the drive through, he's like 40 year old man, gave me this card with his number on it and it was like a free Arby's meal card. And then I was like, oh, so Arby's takes face card. Arby's takes face card. Like he wanted you bad.
16:15
Frank
Yeah, and they do.
16:16
Julia
And they do. And Arby's takes face card.
16:18
Frank
I was the first face card customer, I guess.
16:20
Kieran
Right.
16:20
Frank
But it's also, it's like, hey, do I really want to be walking around saying that? Hey, the guy at Arby's. Arby's.
16:25
Kieran
The man. The male. The male at Arby's.
16:30
Frank
So that was, I don't know if that was a low point or a high point for me.
16:33
Kieran
I thought it was the funniest thing ever.
16:34
Frank
It was really funny.
16:35
Julia
Did you ever use that free meal? Meal?
16:37
Frank
Hey, haven't been back.
16:38
Julia
Oh, you're scared.
16:40
Kieran
I've never been to Arby's.
16:41
Julia
Me neither. Because it does not sound appetizing.
16:43
Frank
Well also you don't eat meat.
16:44
Julia
We have the meat, but the curly.
16:45
Kieran
Fries I feel like I can support.
16:47
Frank
And hey, that's what, that's why I went back. Because when I was a kid they had this like loaded curly fries thing. Ranch bacon.
16:54
Kieran
Eat it up.
16:55
Frank
It was delicious. And they brought it back. I was like, hey, I have to go back obviously. And hey.
16:59
Kieran
And it worked out.
16:59
Frank
And it worked out. Hey, we got that for free.
17:01
Kieran
And it worked out.
17:02
Frank
And it worked out.
17:03
Kieran
So with that in mind, what's your third costume?
17:05
Julia
That's okay. I don't know yet. Okay. I like, I don't know cuz we're doing Halloweekend in Chapel Hill this year. Well, I am. I don't know if Frank is. We still don't know. Yeah, well, up in the air.
17:14
Kieran
Well, actually, Chapel Hill, one night.
17:16
Julia
Well, I'm. I think I'm going to do Chapel Hill Thursday and Friday. And then because I think my PCM is having a party Saturday night. They want to, they want to do tailgate, football game, nap, haunted house party.
17:26
Kieran
And I said, okay, I would die after like tailgate, right?
17:29
Julia
Like I can tailgate. I won't be going to the football game, I can tell you that right now.
17:33
Frank
They built in nap.
17:34
Julia
Right? I appreciate that. But yeah. So I'm thinking I might borrow like one of Grom's costumes or one of Emma's costumes because we're the same size.
17:42
Kieran
So that might work for like Thursday night. But yeah, I need to figure out what I'm actually, like, doing. I think I'm going to Chapel Hill on Thursday.
17:50
Julia
Okay.
17:50
Kieran
My costumes are Jack Sparrow.
17:53
Julia
Yeah.
17:54
Kieran
A ladybug. And Chloe from Pitch Perfect.
17:57
Frank
Yes.
17:58
Kieran
Specifically, like, the last performance outfit. And here's why. Right. You're probably sensing a theme. I will be dyeing my hair red next week.
18:05
Julia
That's my next hair color. So I.
18:07
Kieran
Obviously, my characters have to match, like.
18:10
Frank
Orangey red or like, fire truck red.
18:11
Kieran
Like fire truck red. Last year I did go cool tone red. And I messed with it so hard and I missed it. So I'm gonna go back for, like, the fall winter season. And then I'll probably, like, go back brunette after that.
18:21
Julia
Are we doing, like, full head red? I think? Yes.
18:24
Kieran
Yeah. Like, pretty much, like balayage type beat. Yeah, yeah. I love saying type beat.
18:30
Frank
You kill me, girl.
18:30
Kieran
I have no idea where I got that from either. I just started saying it's a thing. It's a thing now.
18:34
Frank
Yeah, sure. Decided now it is.
18:35
Kieran
Well, yeah, so since I said it right. But I actually have no idea where I'm actually going any of those nights. Like, I don't, as of right now, have any plans to go out.
18:43
Julia
I also, because Cleo. Cleo's my sibling. Cleo is kind of like the host of this year in Chapel Hill. And they're like, oh, we like. There's so many parties we could go to. Like, we go this part this way. And I was like, well, they didn't even say this party. They're like, oh, there's so many things that we can do. So what are those things? What are the things? Because those haven't been disclosed yet.
19:02
Kieran
I'm like, low key, debating whether or not I should just, like, throw something at my apartment little Halloween party. Okay. There's not a single monster mash ounce of enthusiasm either. No, I just like a dumb idea.
19:14
Julia
I don't want to know. I like it. You just would have to invite, like, a lot of people to make it, like, a banger.
19:18
Kieran
And you're saying, I don't know a lot of people I can invite?
19:20
Frank
Well, yeah.
19:22
Kieran
Caught.
19:25
Frank
Anyway. What are you going as Frank so that it's still kind of up in the air.
19:29
Kieran
Sure.
19:30
Frank
I feel. I'll be honest. My planning for this year's Hollyweek has kind of been all over the place.
19:36
Kieran
Yeah.
19:37
Frank
Yes. My plans are. I have some parties that I was invited to that I'm going to go to in Wilmington. But I may come up to Chapel Hill on that Thursday. We'll see. But for Costumes. This is also, hey. Not solidified anything. But one thing. I really wanted to be Glinda because I'm.
20:00
Julia
You do a little.
20:01
Kieran
The little chant.
20:02
Frank
Which one? So that's gonna be Elphaba.
20:06
Kieran
I know, but I still associate it with Wicked. I never watched Wicked.
20:10
Julia
Oh. Oh, it's so good.
20:12
Frank
We gotta change that because it's okay.
20:13
Kieran
I'm okay. Oh, thank you so much, though.
20:16
Julia
It's. It's actually good, though.
20:17
Frank
No, it's.
20:18
Julia
Yeah, I wasn't even. Yeah. I, like, I'm not the biggest musical person, but I really liked it.
20:23
Kieran
Right.
20:23
Frank
But anyway. But I was like, everyone's gonna be Glenda this year, you know? So then I was thinking about a firefighter.
20:29
Kieran
The next closest.
20:33
Frank
Glinder Glender lately.
20:35
Kieran
One of the, like, sexy ones. Like a spirit Halloween.
20:39
Frank
So everything on my note, I have like a notes app.
20:41
Kieran
Right.
20:42
Frank
And pretty much all of them have sexy in front of the title, so it's assumed. Right.
20:46
Kieran
Which leads me into my thought process debate of the dilemma of going sexy or no. Going sexy or no.
20:52
Frank
Right, right.
20:53
Kieran
Question I have. Once you finish that, of course.
20:55
Frank
Well, that would be a good segue.
20:57
Kieran
That was my, that was my goal.
20:58
Frank
Right. And hey, you're doing great.
20:59
Kieran
Thank you.
21:00
Frank
Another one I was thinking of is Betty Boop.
21:03
Julia
Yeah.
21:03
Frank
Because I, I, like, I had the curly hair. I can, like, you know, blow it, dry it a little bit. And then I have that, like, from one of the clothing swaps that we've did that we've done. Someone put in, like, a really, like, boopy dress. Oh, yeah. It was like a little red dress. And I'm like, wait, this could. I can kind of just wait.
21:20
Julia
Was it the red, like, velvet one? Yes, it is mine.
21:22
Frank
Oh, perfect. Someone. Someone happened to put that in one in there.
21:25
Julia
I don't know who that could be.
21:26
Frank
Yep, it was gonna be you. So got him. We'll see. I had Cupid on there.
21:32
Julia
That would be cute.
21:33
Frank
Greek God. I don't, I don't know.
21:35
Kieran
The trio one of Kiss Mary Kill. I always wanted to do that whenever I specifically wanted to be Kiss. But, you know.
21:40
Frank
Well, that's like the same thing where it's like, if you think about, like, who has put you in their Kiss Mary Kills. And it's like you're.
21:47
Julia
People talk about, like, if you want to know your, like ratio of how many people said Kiss Mary Kill, or like, freak marry kill. Yeah, I, I, I want to know so bad. But also, no.
21:57
Kieran
I have been told many times where I Stand in that? Really?
21:59
Frank
Are you serious?
22:00
Julia
I.
22:00
Kieran
In elementary school, I don't know why I had such a traumatic childhood, specifically in just elementary school. Had people come up to me and be like, so and so. Asked me for Kiss Mary Kill. And I had you as kill because, like, you're just not that pretty. Whatever.
22:14
Julia
Did you guys ever get asked out on an Oreo?
22:16
Frank
Oh, yeah.
22:17
Kieran
Have you ever heard of that?
22:18
Julia
No.
22:18
Kieran
I know what it is, but I never was.
22:20
Julia
I was. They would ask me as like a joke.
22:23
Kieran
Well, actually, no, I was, but it was like, it was supposed to be like, you know, like in the movies when they picked like the, in the main character before they do their big transformation. And so it's like the big joke in the school. The ugliest character in the. Okay. That was what they would do to me.
22:40
Julia
That's what they did to me. Yes. They would ask me out as a joke.
22:44
Kieran
Yeah.
22:44
Julia
And it's like, okay, you're actually giving, like you're setting me up for failure for the rest of my life because I'm going to feel like, awful about the way that I look for a long time because of this. And they don't even think about it. Like, middle school boys don't give a freak about that.
22:56
Frank
Okay. And then also literally being like, how do I trust that these people actually like me? Right. It's like an attention thing or.
23:01
Kieran
Right.
23:02
Julia
For years.
23:02
Frank
That could be a topic in itself.
23:04
Julia
Yeah.
23:04
Frank
I don't think we have time for.
23:06
Kieran
Not even remotely enough time. I could go on and on about the horrors of elementary middle school social life. Oh, my God. But back to my original question.
23:14
Julia
Sexy or no?
23:14
Kieran
Sexy or no? The year long dilemma.
23:17
Julia
Year long Christmas morning, I wake up and say, sexy or no?
23:22
Kieran
As I run down the stairs to meet my parents.
23:24
Frank
12:00 clock on New Year's at the.
23:26
Kieran
First thing I'm thinking about and the last thing I think about before I go to bed on December 31st. But yeah. So what was like, I don't know. My question I'm going for here. But like, you get the debate.
23:39
Julia
Like sexy or no. Yeah.
23:40
Kieran
On the first year of Halloween. Like, like first time freedom.
23:42
Julia
Yeah. Like it's your first year, like freshman year at college. You're like, okay, were having this talk earlier that a lot of freshmen, your only option is to go to like a frat or like a club because you're not invited to stuff yet. Because, like, we're now invited to a bunch of stuff because we know a bunch of people now. But like, as A freshman, you don't know anybody. So, like, you have to go to, like, some janky place. And, like. And so the. Like, when you usually go to a frat, it's like, oh, let me wear the least amount of clothes possible. Like, as a woman, right? So then it's like, okay, for Halloween, it doesn't really matter what I am as long as I'm wearing nothing or close to. Right? You're saying just pasties.
24:16
Kieran
I know the example I used earlier, before we started filming, I was like, do I need to wear, like, my entire, like, wardrobe as one singular outfit, or do I need to, like, wear just pasties? Like, I'm trying to get that free entry.
24:28
Julia
Like, right.
24:28
Frank
Walking with some tassels.
24:30
Kieran
I am like, maybe not even that. Like, I'm playing peekaboo. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, it's just a string and a dream.
24:37
Julia
Yeah.
24:37
Kieran
Like, let me tell y' all something.
24:39
Julia
Yeah.
24:39
Kieran
Like, my costume this year is rope. That is what I dressed as. Like that I'm going as dental floss this year, trying to find my dentist.
24:48
Frank
Wait, wait, I like that.
24:49
Kieran
Honestly, you know what?
24:50
Julia
I'm dentist.
24:52
Kieran
I start flossing, like, the 2016 dance.
24:54
Frank
Hey. And that's not getting you anywhere.
24:56
Kieran
Oh, oh, I'll leave.
24:59
Frank
I'm glad you brought that up, because Jillian, one of my good friends from home, she started flossing the other day, and I'm like, you need to stop. And she was like, what do you mean? And everyone was on her side. And I'm like, I thought everyone decided that flossing is out. Like, severely out.
25:12
Kieran
It's pretty out.
25:13
Julia
It's out. But when you do it's ironic.
25:15
Kieran
Now, you gotta be. I would never unironically hit the floss.
25:18
Julia
But I would hit the floss.
25:20
Kieran
I would unironically hit the dab.
25:22
Frank
Oh, yeah. Do you know what I'm saying?
25:23
Kieran
That's so funny. I mean, I'll never walk down the street and be like, hope you're having a great day. Like, I would do that. But, like, sometimes when I, like, win an argument or something, I'm like, yeah. And I hit a quick one of those. A quick head nod. Yeah.
25:37
Julia
Like a slight arc. And watch me o. Watch me, watch me, Superman.
25:45
Frank
Back to sexy or not.
25:47
Kieran
Right? Something sexy.
25:48
Julia
That's what I was saying. It's like, either. It feels like either it's. You go full send on the sexy. Like, where the least amount possible. Or you, like, do an actually funny costume. Like. Like, you see, like, these videos of people being, like, the Lorax and they're.
25:59
Kieran
Wearing, like, a orange. I think that's so funny.
26:01
Julia
I think it's so funny. And like. Like, let's do Halloween for fun and not to, like, get, like, be out and be sexy. But me saying that when all my costumes are gonna be sexy this year, and they usually always are. So I'm just saying.
26:13
Kieran
Well, you know what really, like, drives me up. Not really drives me up a wall. Doesn't bother me that much. Like, something that, like, kind of makes my eye twitch ever so slightly is, like, the whole corset princess thing. Like, I am going to be on the anti corset princess. I understand the vision, and I, like, see our thought process here. I think it's just so overdone that, like, I feel like we're getting to a point in 2025 now as a society that we're just moving all of our costumes into corsets.
26:37
Julia
Yeah.
26:37
Kieran
Like, I did see someone dressed up as, like, the Cruella de Vil, and it was a white corset. A white. Like, I was like, all right.
26:43
Julia
I feel like corset is okay if you, like, mute, because I'm wearing a corset this year. But, like, it's okay if, like, you actually put effort into the other pieces.
26:50
Kieran
Right. Like, I. Like I said when I go as Jack Sparrow, and that requires, like, a corset, but there's also gonn long skirt. There's going to be the head wrap. There's like, there's pieces to this. I'm not just wearing a corset and, like, a skirt and, like, a pirate hat and calling it my day like that.
27:03
Julia
Right. You have to be able to tell what somebody is. Like, you can be sexy. You can wear a corset, but I have to know who you are as your costume, or else I don't like it.
27:10
Kieran
Yeah.
27:11
Frank
Period.
27:12
Julia
Thank you.
27:12
Frank
Bock it.
27:13
Kieran
Bock it. My end result on the question is to be sexy or not is to, A, do whatever you're comfortable with.
27:19
Julia
Yeah.
27:20
Kieran
And B, recognize your surroundings and who you're going to be seeing.
27:22
Julia
That's a big one.
27:23
Kieran
I always had to establish the plans first. Usually before I establish what I'm wearing.
27:27
Julia
Yeah.
27:27
Kieran
Like, I need to know, like, who's gonna be there, what kind of situation it is. And then also, like, then factor. Well, not then, like, always consider what you're comfortable with first, but then, like, and then also factor in what you're comfortable with.
27:37
Julia
Yeah.
27:37
Kieran
And that's kind of how I make my basis. Like, last year, I went as Blue from Blue's Clues, and Roderick was gonna be like a T shirt and jeans and a bunch of eyeliner. Like, that was not sexy at all, but, like, it ate down and every single person knew who I was. Blue was a little bit more sexy because I had, like, a tighter dress on and like, my. My girls were girl in, but, like, I did have a felt headband on and, like, it was a long sleeve dress. So, like, it was. There was like a little.
28:02
Julia
Yeah, like classy. Classy. Yeah. Yes, I like that.
28:06
Kieran
Yes. His eyes.
28:07
Julia
I like. Last year, Frank and I, we. We did a. We did like a. Like a duo. A duo costume. Not a couple costume, but like a. You know, I first. We didn't actually do anything. We went to Mia's apartment and ate Taco Bell and then took pictures and then went back inside and later on. But I was the Playboy Bunny first and Frank was Hugh Hefner. And then we switched costumes and Frank was the Playboy Bunny and I was Hugh Hefner. Wait, I have to tell you, the name that we call. We call it because I think it's the funniest thing. Huge Hefner and Playboy Bussy.
28:42
Kieran
That is.
28:43
Frank
So that's going to be us, y'all.
28:45
Kieran
We're going to hear all night. Well, what set me. Because I remember seeing your Instagram photos about this, because this was like, right after we became friends or like, knew each other. We weren't even really friends at that point. Like, were, but weren't really.
28:57
Julia
Yeah.
28:58
Kieran
And my. The thing that sent me the most about that was that Frank fit into the outfit and the shoes fit, too. Like, my boots, like, it all, like, not in like a. That sounds so demeaning. But, like, you both, like, worked it well.
29:09
Frank
Like, what you mean? Yeah, I was like, thank you.
29:11
Kieran
Hello, bodies were tea. Who is this icon? Like, right, that.
29:15
Julia
That's Playboy we ate.
29:16
Frank
And that's Huge Hefner right there. Hugh Hefner looking right at her.
29:20
Kieran
Oh, wow. Clear as day.
29:21
Julia
Clear as day. Sitting right. Yeah, that was really fun. And like, that's weird. Another thing we're gonna say is that, like, you don't have to go to a party. Like, like we said, we just sat around like, last year on actual. I like the weekend before how Halloween, I was in Chapel Hill and I went, like, to a party and then I went to see a midnight showing of what's it called?
29:43
Frank
Rocky.
29:43
Julia
Rocky Horror Picture Show. It was so good. It was so good. And then actual Halloween, I went to a play put on by NC State. It was the Mr. Burns play.
29:53
Kieran
Yes.
29:56
Julia
Yeah. And that's. Right. Like, the actors did a great job acting. It just. I. I could not understand what was going on. Like, it did not make any sense to me.
30:04
Kieran
It usually doesn't.
30:05
Julia
Right.
30:05
Kieran
With love and care.
30:06
Julia
Like, xoxo also, they're, like, good actors, and, like, they have great voices and the costumes are great, and that's because I help work on them. But of course, like, at what point, like, why. Why are we choosing this really niche play that nobody's ever heard of? It makes no sense. I don't. I don't understand. Anyway, so that's what I did on actual Halloween. And then the weekend after Halloween, I. We did the Getting Taco Bell, staying and taking pictures.
30:25
Frank
Right.
30:26
Julia
And it was great.
30:26
Frank
And. Okay, that's something that I want to talk about too. Like, you don't have to go to a party or a club or something to have a good Halloween.
30:35
Julia
Right.
30:35
Frank
Just. Can it be fun?
30:37
Julia
Yes. Yes, of course.
30:38
Kieran
As a freshman.
30:39
Frank
Right. Does it depend on the, like, alternative also? Yes. But, like, were just. Literally, we got dressed up, like, in our costumes, hung out a Taco Bell, and it was a great night.
30:50
Julia
Yeah.
30:50
Frank
So it's. It's like.
30:51
Julia
And there were only four of us there.
30:52
Frank
Right. So it's like, you don't. I think there's a big expectation for Halloweekend, where it's like, you know, as we said, it's the biggest party, like, weekend of the year. But, like, you know, and there's expectation to then go to those parties or, like, have, like, the best story.
31:06
Julia
Yeah.
31:07
Frank
But it's also. It's like.
31:08
Julia
Yeah.
31:09
Frank
Eh. Right. Like, sometimes it's not gonna be fun at a party.
31:12
Julia
Oh, my God. I remember something else that I did last Halloween. It was the weekend after Halloween. I was trying to remember what I did on that Friday night. I was volunteering at a church, lock in with the little kids at my church. So were having a sleepover at church, and my church is on Hillsborough street, and we're surrounded by frat houses, like, completely surrounded on every side. So there were parties happening everywhere around us. Right.
31:38
Kieran
And center.
31:39
Julia
Yeah. Bumping. And the kids were, like, running to the window, like, what is that? And I'm like, don't look out.
31:42
Kieran
Nothing, nothing, nothing.
31:44
Julia
You're gonna see something you don't want to see.
31:45
Frank
Your eyes.
31:46
Julia
Yeah. So that was. That was my wholesome Friday night. Yeah, it was fun.
31:51
Frank
That's cute.
31:52
Kieran
Yeah. I didn't Do a whole lot for Halloween. Last year at one point, me and some friends did try to go out and we left with like the intention was like 15 people were gonna go. Only three made it into the club.
32:04
Julia
Right.
32:04
Kieran
By the time we got there. One of them being me.
32:07
Frank
So, you know, you're the 1 in 5.
32:09
Kieran
We were the trio of the night where I saw some crazy things at the club.
32:13
Julia
Well, because you went to legends, right?
32:14
Kieran
We did go to legends.
32:15
Julia
You'll always do crazy things.
32:16
Kieran
I saw more than one and an involved activity. Wow.
32:23
Julia
Halloween will do that.
32:24
Kieran
Halloween will do that too.
32:25
Julia
It frees. It frees the spirits. It's witching our all Halloween.
32:27
Frank
Truly.
32:28
Kieran
You're putting some skeletons in the closet, let me tell you.
32:30
Frank
Yeah, I love those. Oh, hey, I love these puns, by the way. Thank you.
32:34
Kieran
Yeah.
32:34
Frank
At any time. Thank you. Love it.
32:38
Kieran
So in summary, live it up. Do it with you're comfortable with. Don't be afraid to push the boundaries. But to a certain degree.
32:45
Frank
Mm.
32:45
Julia
I agree. It's like, it's like a little bit of an excuse to be sexy and go out and party. But also I love being cozy. One thing that everybody in my life knows about me is I will be cozy.
32:56
Kieran
Oh, yes.
32:56
Julia
I like, I. Everybody knows that about me. It's my favorite thing ever. So, like, maybe my dream Halloween plan is to stay in my bed and be cozy and watch a movie. Yay. And that's still so fun. You can party any week. Weekend like actually. So no need to put all the pressure on Halloween.
33:14
Frank
I agree.
33:16
Julia
Quick fire round after that final advice about Halloween.
33:19
Frank
Yeah, I would. Yeah, I would just say like.
33:22
Kieran
And yeah.
33:22
Frank
You know, sometimes low your expectations. Right. Sometimes lower your expectations. It's not going to be what it's all cracked out to be. But also, like, have just have a good time, like whatever that looks like for you and hit the note. Go dress up. Like, go out with your friends or stay in, like, and just as long as I feel as you're safe and you're comfortable. That's what a good Halloween should be.
33:46
Julia
Yeah. Stay safe. That's.
33:47
Frank
And also acknowledge that like, going out three nights in a row may not be for you. And that's also.
33:51
Julia
That's the only. The only time I can ever do that. Like, I. I have to. I can only lock in.
33:55
Kieran
It's a. Once a year.
33:56
Julia
Once a year.
33:57
Frank
Yeah.
33:57
Kieran
I've actually never gone out more than one night in a row. So this is going to be really interesting for me.
34:00
Julia
I've done. I've Done a three day. It was. It was that one spring break, were in Chapel Hill. Well, actually, I didn't. I didn't end up going to that screamo night thing that you went to for the third night. So I did. Yeah. Two day thing.
34:11
Kieran
But Two day bendor, which. Yeah.
34:13
Frank
Was. Yeah, we won't talk about that.
34:16
Julia
Yeah. Quick fire.
34:17
Kieran
Question around. Favorite Halloween film.
34:19
Frank
Oh, I like that.
34:21
Kieran
It doesn't have to be scary, but just like fall Halloween. Like fall or Halloween centered movie.
34:28
Julia
I like the Halloweentown movies.
34:30
Kieran
I was gonna say that.
34:31
Julia
Like the whole. I watch all of them. I haven't watched them yet, so maybe I'll do that.
34:34
Frank
I don't love the third or fourth.
34:36
Julia
What? You're not a true fan.
34:38
Frank
Okay, whatever.
34:38
Julia
You have to watch all of them.
34:39
Kieran
I watched all of them, but the first one's the best.
34:42
Frank
Yeah. Second one's pretty good too.
34:43
Kieran
The second's pretty good, but not as good as the first. I agree, but it's respectable. My other favorite is the Great Pumpkin. Charlie Brown.
34:49
Julia
Oh, yeah. I watch that with my mom every year.
34:51
Kieran
Yep.
34:52
Frank
It's a rock.
34:53
Kieran
I got a rock. Did you guys ever watch Spookly, the square pumpkin?
34:58
Frank
Yeah. Okay. Can I. I have a pumpkin? Yes. Oh, yeah, we know.
35:02
Julia
Okay. Oh, wow. Never mind. I was gonna say something mean, never being welcome. I said, you're gon. He would be bigly.
35:10
Kieran
You guys kind of give, like, the big and the small one. Like, you guys really always kind of attached to it.
35:13
Julia
Big and small. Big and small.
35:14
Frank
Well, let's, you know, be careful who we're calling big and small, because if I'm looking at you, hey, you might be a little different on who we're calling it.
35:21
Kieran
Mom and dad are fighting again.
35:22
Julia
Sorry, guys.
35:22
Frank
Sorry. Sorry. But, yeah, I have a vivid story about Spookly.
35:26
Julia
Please.
35:27
Kieran
That's such a funny name.
35:28
Frank
Right?
35:29
Kieran
He is me. And I and him.
35:30
Julia
I am him.
35:31
Frank
Pookie.
35:33
Kieran
Pooky. Spooky, spooky.
35:35
Julia
Spooky.
35:35
Frank
Pooky.
35:38
Kieran
Mm.
35:41
Frank
Perfect.
35:42
Kieran
And scene we.
35:44
Frank
Okay, so I was maybe nine.
35:46
Kieran
Sure.
35:46
Frank
Right.
35:47
Julia
Okay. I'm getting the vision. I'm getting the vision.
35:49
Frank
As we all were. And I just. Yeah, we had. Hey, Shout out. Went to the Cheesecake Factory.
35:57
Julia
Love you some Cheesecake Factory.
35:58
Kieran
I love the Cheesecake Factory. I buy the bread, buy the baguette. Like you can buy them to take home. And I take them and I. The Godiva cheesecake knows me by name.
36:07
Frank
Like it's Godiva. Godiva. Okay, time out. I'm splitting into so Many different.
36:12
Kieran
We'll circle back. We'll circle back.
36:13
Frank
Godiva is my cousin's cat whose name is Godiva.
36:16
Julia
And.
36:17
Frank
But Ju was on the FaceTime with me the other week, and she's like, Dubai, because.
36:21
Julia
Dubai chocolate reference. And then you say, hello, Dubai. Like Rihanna when she's on the building. Hello, Dubai. So great to be with you.
36:32
Frank
But anyway, back to spookly. I was 9, went to cheesecake Factory, unfortunately, had a stomach bug brewing. So, you know, when you eat something really marinating that really.
36:41
Julia
And Cheesecake Factory with a stomach bug is crazy. Like, that's, like, worst.
36:44
Frank
Like. Yeah. And I know I'm not gonna get into detail because, hey, pg. But I remember vividly, like, being up that night, like, sleeping on the couch. We were at my cousin's house.
36:53
Kieran
Yeah.
36:54
Frank
You know, and I was like, could not fall asleep. And I remember waking up at, like, 4 in the morning and Spookly is on, like, my screen, like, on, like, the big tv.
37:03
Kieran
Sorry, guys. My mom keeps trying to call me.
37:04
Frank
Hey, girl. A little caller. Call her on the pod.
37:07
Kieran
Call her on the pod.
37:08
Julia
That's really what she said.
37:11
Kieran
Hello? Hey. I'm just trying to figure out if the chili, if that's beef or is it turkey. We're filming the podcast right now. Say hi to the podcast. Oh, hi. It's turkey. Oh, is it dark meat turkey then? No, it's just ground turkey. Did you get ground white meat turkey or ground turkey? I thought it was white meat. It looked white when I bought it.
37:34
Julia
Yeah, I think it was white meat.
37:36
Kieran
If it doesn't specifically say ground breast, then it's not white meat. I. I thought it was. I'm, like, pretty confident.
37:43
Julia
Okay.
37:44
Kieran
Why you don't believe in that? Because ground white meat turkey doesn't, like, break down as much as you have it. That's why I was thinking it was beef. Well, no, I just, like, I. I really went in there with it. Well, okay, well, let you get back to podcast. That's all I wanted to know. Okay. All right, Well, I hope that I.
38:04
Julia
Make an appearance on this Is Turkey with Karen.
38:07
Kieran
Yeah. This is a new segment we're in.
38:08
Julia
This is turkey. Yes.
38:10
Frank
Perfect. Time for Thanksgiving, right?
38:13
Kieran
Come on and talk everything about turkey. Perfect.
38:16
Julia
Thank you.
38:16
Kieran
Yep. Love you. Love you too. Bye. I love Amy. Oh, she called me twice and texted me. She puts the meat in the chili. Was gonna eat some think it's beef. I wasn't sure if it was dark meat.
38:27
Julia
Can she not eat?
38:28
Kieran
No, she just doesn't like it. She hates dark Meat. Like dark meat chicken, dark meat turkey.
38:34
Julia
Yeah. At least she knows herself.
38:35
Kieran
I like that she'll eat ground beef, though. But I think she's trying to figure out, like, if it's dark meat turkey or ground beef.
38:39
Julia
What were we just talking about?
38:40
Frank
Spookly. So, yeah. Moral of the story. I don't. Me and him don't have the best relationship because I associate him with that time.
38:46
Julia
That's crazy, considering you look just like him. Him.
38:48
Frank
Okay. Me when I'm wearing an orange shirt today. Anyway. Well, my favorite Halloween movie.
38:55
Julia
Yes.
38:56
Frank
I was going to say Halloween Town, but I'll say Hocus Pocus.
38:59
Kieran
That was going to be mine.
38:59
Julia
That's a very Halloween.
39:00
Kieran
I watched it last night.
39:02
Julia
Okay. Yeah.
39:04
Frank
Like, it just.
39:05
Kieran
Okay.
39:06
Julia
Thanks.
39:07
Kieran
Sisters.
39:08
Julia
Sisters.
39:10
Frank
It's great.
39:10
Kieran
I can quote pretty much 80% of that film.
39:12
Julia
Really? I've only seen it, like, twice.
39:14
Kieran
I can probably, like. I can do a pretty good play by play.
39:17
Frank
Really?
39:17
Julia
Do you like the newer one? Nope.
39:20
Kieran
Not even a little.
39:20
Julia
It's like they waited too long to.
39:22
Kieran
Make it way too long.
39:23
Frank
Also, call me a millennial. I do love them riding on the Roombas, though. That's a little.
39:27
Kieran
That was funny. That made me. That didn't. But then when they were, like, in the Sephora whatever, it was like, putting makeup on and looking in the mirror. I was like, okay, all right. Film the first one in, like, 1991. That so far isn't, like, really even a thing. And then without, like, yeah, cell phones in the next one.
39:44
Julia
Let's.
39:44
Kieran
Let's take it down a notch.
39:45
Julia
Yeah.
39:46
Frank
Yeah. I also love it, though, because Ms. Carrie Bradshaw makes an appearance. Oh. She is one of the witches.
39:50
Julia
Right.
39:51
Frank
And always got to support my queen.
39:52
Kieran
So just always was watching Sex in the City, Love. The other day.
39:55
Frank
Big is going to the underworld.
39:57
Julia
So Big is going to the underworld. Big's the zombie.
39:59
Frank
Yeah.
40:00
Julia
Yeah.
40:01
Frank
Big's going to the graveyard.
40:02
Julia
Yeah. Big.
40:03
Frank
Oh, okay.
40:05
Kieran
So on that note, we're actually going to be starting a new segment on the pod.
40:07
Julia
Yes.
40:08
Kieran
Called Notes App.
40:09
Julia
Because I have a Notes app of things that I have to tell you guys. And I'm really passionate about this one because it kind of relates to the dead horse were beating earlier.
40:15
Kieran
Wait, what time frame are we at right now?
40:17
Julia
We have been talking for 40 minutes, so we're chilling.
40:19
Kieran
We're chilling. Like, okay, pull up my notes.
40:21
Julia
Up. Wait. Okay. Oh, sorry.
40:23
Frank
I meant to say love. I said like.
40:25
Kieran
Like and subscribe. And that's a great reminder that you actually be liking and subscribe. To this podcast because it's available on all streaming platforms wherever you get your podcast, Specifically Spotify and Apple Pod.
40:35
Frank
The way you can tie things together is magnificent. You should just. I just want to commend you on that.
40:39
Kieran
Thank you. I should be a voice actor.
40:40
Julia
You should.
40:41
Kieran
Welcome back this summer.
40:43
Julia
Back with me. Back with me.
40:45
Kieran
Julia Frank and Kieran take on the podcast for the fourth episode. Actually, I think this is gonna be the fifth.
40:51
Julia
Oh, yeah. Oops. Frick.
40:53
Kieran
We have to redo the whole podcast episode.
40:55
Julia
We're recording the whole thing. Oh, my God. Okay, can I go first on the notes? I think no. Oh.
41:01
Kieran
Oh, yeah, go ahead.
41:02
Julia
Okay. Well, first I have to say I have like low key two things to say. The first one is just, okay, we talked about banana bread. And in like two episodes ago. When this comes out, it'll be two episodes ago. Right.
41:10
Kieran
And how the callback.
41:11
Julia
Thank you.
41:12
Kieran
A reference.
41:12
Julia
Right. So we talked about how banana bread is like, for a man's partner to give him banana bread is like a forehead kiss. It's like a forehead kiss.
41:22
Kieran
It's an act. An act of affection, if you will.
41:25
Julia
Right. And it's like, has the equal value of a forehead kiss. Okay. Right. I said it right. Because like, these days a forehead kiss means a lot. Like if you like it with a situation. Situation.
41:34
Kieran
Really?
41:35
Julia
Situationship.
41:36
Kieran
You don't say.
41:38
Julia
When a situationship gives you a forehead kiss, it's like you want more. Like you want a situation.
41:43
Kieran
Yeah, forehead kiss.
41:47
Julia
Okay. Anyway.
41:48
Frank
Sorry.
41:48
Julia
Anyway. Okay.
41:50
Frank
We're yearning too much.
41:50
Julia
Anyway, seasonally, it's now time for pumpkin bread. So I was home for fall break, and because I don't take my own advice that I gave you guys in the show. Made pumpkin bread for a man. I brought it over to his house and it has, hey, maybe even a better effect than banana bread did.
42:04
Kieran
Oh.
42:04
Julia
Because I talked to him on the phone last night.
42:07
Kieran
Oh.
42:07
Julia
And sorry.
42:08
Kieran
We'll chat later on. We will.
42:09
Julia
I'm sorry. I talked to him on the phone and he was like, I gotta go home and have a slice of your pumpkin bread. It was just so good. And I was like. And it was.
42:17
Kieran
And it was.
42:17
Julia
And it was. And I did move forward with eating a half of a loaf on my own. So, yeah, no shame.
42:22
Kieran
It was fire when you brought pumpkin bread. I had a soup party that this past week. Yes, as you tell soup. I did.
42:28
Julia
I had it.
42:30
Kieran
Yeah, that's the sentence.
42:31
Julia
We ate soup.
42:32
Frank
Can I ask, like, what, like how many you had?
42:34
Kieran
Yeah. So I made three soups I made chili. I made baked potato soup, and then I made tomato soup. Someone brought tortellini. And then someone brought. I also had a grilled cheese bar, so I made grilled cheese.
42:44
Frank
I did hear about that. Yeah.
42:45
Kieran
Yeah. So we had. Someone brought brownies. Somebody brought apple cinnamon rolls.
42:49
Julia
Oh, somebody brought.
42:49
Kieran
They were so good.
42:50
Julia
Somebody brought pumpkin bread.
42:51
Kieran
Someone brought pumpkin bread. And that's where I was going with this was Julia. So, by the way, so what are we now that you brought? And Julia did text me. She's like, do you want chocolate chips in it? I said, yes, please. So we'll be discussing. What are we later.
43:07
Julia
Wait, wait.
43:08
Kieran
You pretty much fired, though.
43:09
Julia
Oh, yes. Yes. Yeah.
43:10
Kieran
No, that was it.
43:11
Julia
Oh, okay.
43:11
Kieran
Just cut me off.
43:11
Julia
That's fine. Okay. My. Anyway. Anyway.
43:14
Frank
No label.
43:14
Kieran
Yeah.
43:16
Julia
What are we. Nothing. So cry. My. My actual thought for this section is. You guys know on Instagram, when a gym bro has an Instagram account, that's his gym account. And the names are some, like, crazy thing. It's like. It's like, train or die. Like, it's like, you know.
43:36
Kieran
Yes.
43:37
Julia
Why are we. Why is it.
43:38
Kieran
Wait to the max 487, right?
43:40
Julia
It's like, join along for the journey. And it's like, as I teach you.
43:45
Kieran
How to get shredded, it's like, we're gonna be taking our 750 pound weights and repping.
43:51
Frank
Let's get creative with some creatine.
43:53
Julia
Oh, my God. And they, like, have, like. They give you, like, a tour of all their protein powders.
43:57
Kieran
Oh, my gosh. Like, it's like a spice rack.
44:00
Julia
But, like, just the banana bread guy, he has an entire cabinet full of different flavors of protein powder. He just collects them.
44:07
Frank
Love that.
44:08
Kieran
There's, like, so many comments I can make about that.
44:10
Julia
Right? And they're like, how to get 80,000 grams of protein in your daily diet. All you're gonna do is be like Gaston and eat six dozen eggs a morning.
44:21
Kieran
Six full chickens. Live extra live, roast extra live extra.
44:29
Frank
Can I chime in with something with this? People who, you know, hey, each their own. But, like, everyone who's like, I gotta have these supplements. You're like, these powders. I'm like. But then, like, praise. Like a holistic. Like.
44:41
Kieran
Right.
44:41
Frank
That's not natural life. I just feel like, also, am I one to talk? No. Because I will be eating, you know, 3 grams of red 40 a day.
44:50
Julia
Right?
44:50
Frank
So, like.
44:51
Kieran
Right.
44:51
Frank
But also, I'm also an American, so that. And I'm also not advocating to be, like, holistic, healthy.
44:57
Julia
Right.
44:57
Kieran
I'm not lying. At no point.
45:01
Frank
I own my poor diet.
45:03
Kieran
So, no, I was talking about this, I think on the first pod episode. At one point last year, my diet was quite literally, and I'm not even joking. Root beer, saltines, and a pint of ice cream. That was all I ate every day for, like, a month.
45:13
Julia
Go to meal.
45:14
Kieran
Did I lose weight? Yes, because I was walking five pounds. But I was literally like, that was it. And I was like, wow. Like, life is so good. Like, I was. I was taking down four boxes of saltine. Not the packs. Like, the full box with the four sleeves. Like, that was 16 sleeves of saltine a week.
45:30
Frank
Okay. Math.
45:33
Julia
Okay.
45:34
Kieran
We have an exam in two.
45:35
Frank
How'd that, that. That exam go?
45:38
Kieran
The first one, I got a 95.
45:40
Julia
I won't be sharing what I got.
45:41
Frank
Oh, okay. Hey, and we love you anyway.
45:43
Julia
Thank you.
45:43
Kieran
No, because I actually did jump out of the. This, like, the seat once again. I have a habit of, like, lifting upwards with my body. Like, I saw that grade.
45:50
Julia
I literally went.
45:51
Kieran
And I, like, had to run out before I started. Like, I literally was like.
45:54
Julia
Because everybody's taking other exams around. No.
45:56
Kieran
So I had to be quiet. I say, I can't remember my score. I can't remember my score. But also, like, I'm crying. Like, I about frolicked to the car. Like, it was crazy. So I think I actually decided to take a longer walk to work after that because I was just so high on life. I like that I will not be having that same experience in about a week and a half from now. So I'm gonna soak it in while I can.
46:13
Julia
Okay, Everybody's notes. That.
46:15
Kieran
Yes, Frank, do you want to go?
46:16
Frank
You go.
46:16
Kieran
You want me?
46:17
Julia
Okay.
46:17
Frank
I'm still thinking.
46:18
Kieran
Okay.
46:18
Julia
I have a couple. This is the one. I can't.
46:19
Kieran
I don't think I've brought it up here, but I have brought it up with Julia once. Is that I wonder in the entirety of my life if I've seen all the variations of time on a clock.
46:27
Julia
We were talking about this the other.
46:28
Kieran
Day, and I've been thinking about this because, like, when is the last time you've ever seen 236 on a clock?
46:32
Julia
Literally, I feel like I've seen two things.
46:34
Kieran
Like, 5:12. Like, who sees 512? I don't. 5:19. Like, never heard of her. 342. Like, what?
46:40
Julia
Yeah, like.
46:41
Kieran
But I just wonder in, like, the span of my life if I've seen every single time variation. Because, like, obviously there's like, it happens twice a day. So, like, how.
46:48
Frank
The chances are pretty high.
46:49
Kieran
Yeah, it gets pretty good. I just wonder if I've, like, I've seen all of them.
46:52
Julia
Yeah, right. Like.
46:54
Frank
Or, like, can you, like, assign things to, like, oh, this happened at this time.
46:58
Julia
Yeah.
46:58
Frank
Which I don't know if that's even plausible because the only times that are really significant is, like, when you're born or, like, New Year's, so.
47:06
Julia
Right.
47:07
Frank
Wait, we got married. I meant. Okay.
47:09
Kieran
Yeah, in the sense that.
47:11
Frank
In the sense that. I mean, like, when things are, like, associated with, like, a specific time.
47:15
Kieran
Wait, that actually has a same vein kind of question. I have kind of. You off that.
47:19
Frank
Yeah.
47:19
Kieran
Do you guys associate colors with numbers?
47:21
Frank
Oh, absolutely.
47:23
Kieran
So I have thoughts and feelings. I have colors with letters and colors with numbers.
47:27
Julia
Yeah, me too.
47:27
Kieran
That I have big thoughts on.
47:29
Frank
Do you have them with months and days as well?
47:31
Julia
I do.
47:31
Frank
Yeah.
47:32
Julia
Like seven.
47:32
Kieran
Yeah.
47:33
Julia
Okay. The color red, the number seven and Thursday are all the same.
47:37
Kieran
I would disagree.
47:39
Frank
I agree with you, Karen.
47:39
Julia
Really?
47:40
Frank
Yeah. No, seven's green. It is Thursday.
47:43
Kieran
Seven is green. Seven is lime green.
47:45
Frank
Oh, four is lime green. Seven is, like, darker green.
47:48
Kieran
Four is purple.
47:49
Julia
What about three is yellow?
47:50
Frank
Three is blue, Babe.
47:52
Julia
Three is not blue.
47:54
Kieran
Three is, like, red.
47:56
Frank
This is the same debate as, like, what. Like, what color notebook is science?
48:00
Kieran
Green.
48:00
Frank
Green.
48:01
Kieran
I agree, and I'm so strongly on that. Green is science is English.
48:05
Julia
Red is.
48:05
Kieran
Red is English.
48:06
Frank
What's. What's English?
48:07
Kieran
No, red.
48:09
Frank
Mostly blue.
48:09
Julia
No, I agree.
48:10
Kieran
Blue is math. No, I've seen this for my whole life.
48:13
Frank
No, what's. What's what? Social studies. Yellow. Yellow I usually use.
48:17
Julia
I used to have a yellow notebook.
48:18
Kieran
It was either yellow or white.
48:19
Frank
Well, at least we can agree with science and social studies.
48:22
Julia
Yeah, I love social.
48:22
Kieran
I'll take two out of four. Anyway, so I was just thinking about that, though.
48:27
Julia
I have to sneeze.
48:28
Kieran
No. Okay. Something I've also been, like, thinking about. There's so many I could, like, talk about, but, like, the power of sure or sure. Like, when someone texts me Sure. I. Like, I'm kind of going through three stages of grief. Like, I'm not quite sure where. Like. Like, I'm not quite aware of where we're at. Like, hey, do you want to come with me? Sure. Like, or is it, like, sure, or.
48:50
Frank
Is it, like, sure, like, for sure?
48:52
Kieran
Sure, like, sure, like, or if it's just, like, because maybe it's just, like, people I've been around in life, but I'm like, oh, hey, could you do that. And they're like, sure. Okay, so I'll just go ahead and leave, like whatever.
49:01
Frank
Right?
49:02
Kieran
Like something about the word sure is just so like. I feel like it has so many connotations depending on like the exact tone of voice.
49:08
Frank
I agree. How do you say it? How do you say it? Do you say sure or sure?
49:14
Kieran
When I'm like. In a comedic sense, I'll say sure. Because I'll be like, sure. But I'll be like, sure. Sure.
49:21
Frank
Yeah, I think I say sure.
49:23
Julia
You always say everything wrong.
49:25
Frank
Wrong is crazy.
49:26
Kieran
Different.
49:27
Frank
Different.
49:27
Kieran
This is an accepting environment.
49:29
Julia
Thank you everybody but Frank.
49:31
Frank
Okay, I'll be telling that to the linguistics department here that we met up with yesterday.
49:35
Julia
I love them.
49:35
Frank
Yes. At the state fair, they have a booth every year.
49:38
Kieran
Yeah.
49:38
Frank
Every year we get a new pin that has like a little.
49:40
Julia
You know, I got another slay pin, this little collection and it's purple and I was like, you know what you're doing?
49:44
Kieran
What kind of things did you guys collect or did you ever collect things?
49:47
Frank
Rocks and like Crystals?
49:49
Kieran
I have a couple.
49:50
Julia
I used to collect rocks. I have a button collection that I inherited from my grandmother. I have a lot of books. I collect books. Which is like. I feel like a classic thing to collect.
49:59
Kieran
Mine is keychains. Every time, every single time I travel somewhere, I buy a keychain. Like every time I have a different life events. Like when I started college, I got an NC State keychain so I can like tell little stories by my keychains. Another was special quarters. I always collected quarters that had like weird designs on them.
50:17
Frank
Yeah.
50:17
Kieran
So I have quarters from like 1960 and like. Like I have a quarter from like 2012 that like has like weird designs on it.
50:23
Frank
Interesting.
50:24
Julia
Okay.
50:24
Frank
I like that. Good for you.
50:25
Kieran
I feel like that's another notes app thought.
50:27
Frank
What about someone else who notes?
50:29
Julia
No tap.
50:31
Frank
Well, this is kind of like in vein of what I'm doing tomorrow. I'm seeing Billie Eilish tomorrow in Charlotte. Miss Eyelash Shout out Miss to my girl. Missing her.
50:39
Kieran
Hey.
50:40
Frank
Saw her once.
50:40
Kieran
Never met.
50:41
Frank
Never met her. But my thought with that is like the concert experience. And I know this is like such like a talked about debate already, but like the post concert amnesia.
50:52
Julia
Yeah.
50:53
Frank
And it's like I. Cause I saw her with Mia last year and it was like it was a great concert. I loved it and I'm happy to be back. But like I could not tell you really what happened. So it's like, will I be experiencing it like for the first time Again tomorrow. It's like, I feel like post concert amnesia is such a real thing. And she talked about. Cause it's low key scary because like.
51:13
Julia
After Taylor Swift, Frank and I went to Taylor Swift with a few of our other friends and that was like I had amnesia after that. I was like, well, I don't know what just happened. I like, did we do anything yesterday or.
51:24
Frank
And it's like, do I remember the videos or do I remember being there?
51:27
Kieran
Right?
51:28
Frank
So that's something to sit on.
51:30
Kieran
I threw up. I love that. I threw up after a concert once.
51:36
Frank
Because I was so sad.
51:38
Kieran
After Sam Smith. I saw Sam Smith a couple years ago.
51:42
Julia
I love that you love Sansmith.
51:44
Kieran
I'm seeing Sam Smith again in New York.
51:46
Frank
Oh my goodness. Madison Square.
51:48
Kieran
Yeah. No, no, they're doing like a. It's around like 30 people in like. Because it's like they've been performing for the past like few months in this like, same location. It's like a special thing. But I saw Sam Smith for the first time. I grew up listening to Sam Smith. My mom had Sam Smith as her ringtone. So like, me and Sam, like, were tight. Mommy don't know.
52:09
Julia
Daddy's kidding.
52:10
Kieran
It was one time.
52:10
Frank
We're gonna shut off your mic.
52:12
Julia
I actually have a control of my.
52:13
Frank
So sorry.
52:14
Kieran
Okay, it's my turn to speak, not yours. So yeah, bubbles in our mouth. I actually did that at the sweet party. I was trying to tell them it's time to eat. And I said, bubbles in our mouth. One, two, three, eyes on me. And they all listen in our mouth. Soon, yes, soon to be. But yeah, I got so excited. Spoon to be.
52:31
Julia
All right.
52:31
Kieran
That was me when I did. I called it souptober. And then I would call it spooky. S P O U P Y Spooky.
52:37
Frank
Right.
52:38
Kieran
But yeah, I threw up after Sam Smith because I was so excited. I've also seen Hosier like four times. Three or four times. Could not tell you, like, anything that happened.
52:46
Julia
Well, we saw last year.
52:48
Kieran
I was actually there at that same.
52:49
Julia
One actually, but we didn't get tickets. We were just on the boardwalk and there's like a video of Cleo, like, Hoziersings the first note and Cleo clutches their chest. They're like.
52:57
Frank
And it's like collapses almost.
52:59
Julia
So millennial. Like me when I see the Disney castle for the first time after Covid and they collapse to their knees.
53:06
Frank
That's me. Or that video. Watching Taylor Swift announcement. The tortured poets department.
53:10
Kieran
Oh, I can't.
53:11
Frank
I'll show it to you after this. But it's like, I was watching the Grammys and I was recording it. Cause of course. And she announces she was like, my new album. And I like, shriek.
53:19
Julia
Yeah, it's really funny.
53:20
Frank
And looking back, hey, let's calm down.
53:22
Kieran
That was me in a Starbucks, actually. When Sam Smith announced they were going on tour. I had skipped class, dance class, and went to Starbucks. Cause it was in walking distance. And I was just sitting there. And I saw the notification because they had posted it on their Instagram. And I called my mom hysterically crying. And she actually had gotten my dad.
53:42
Julia
Out of a meeting.
53:43
Kieran
Like, something's wrong with Kieran. Like, we need to go. And I was like, no. Sam Smith saw tour.
53:47
Julia
Like, Sam Smith.
53:48
Kieran
My mom was like, I'm gonna kill you. Like, I'm going to actually harm you when I see you next.
53:52
Frank
That. Wait, that. Okay, I'm sorry. That reminds me of when I called you when I left your house. Do you want to tell the story.
53:59
Julia
From your point of view?
53:59
Frank
Okay.
54:00
Julia
We had been hanging out, and he left my house at like, 11pm and he's driving home. I. He, like, used to live, like, 15 minutes away from me. So in that time, I had taken a shower, gotten out of the shower. It was in my bed being cozy. He calls me and he says, Ju. And I say, oh, my God. Oh, my God. He's in a car wreck. Like, let me get out of my bed. Like, I, you know, jump up, right? I'm like. I'm like, frank, are you okay? Like, what's wrong? And he's like, there's a spider in my car. And I'm like, oh, you're freaking kidding me. Like, be freaky.
54:27
Frank
For real. I was parked out of the car, actually. I was out of the car. I was so safe. And I was like, Ju, there's a spider this big.
54:33
Kieran
And it was, like, on my center console. And I screamed and it, like, ran at me fast. I.
54:37
Frank
Hey, mind you, this was a few months ago.
54:41
Kieran
Well, so I actually do the same thing when the Kentucky butter cake cookie at Crumble comes. I cannot. Like, I love that cookie so much. The last time that it came out, a few weeks ago, I had called my parents and I individually and I said, are you sitting down? You need to sit down. Like, Like, I need you to be sitting down when I tell you this. Like, I was like. And they're like, oh, my God, like, what? Like, I'm at work. Like, do you need me to, like, blah, blah. I was like, the Kentucky Buttercake cookies back, and they were like, I'm hanging out.
55:03
Frank
Right.
55:04
Julia
Oh, my God. You know what makes me that excited is when you guys follow our Instagram @TWTSpod.
55:13
Kieran
One note from Frank.
55:13
Frank
I had one more notes app thing.
55:15
Kieran
To say is that.
55:15
Julia
Okay, well, we're at 55 minutes.
55:17
Frank
I'll go super quick.
55:18
Kieran
So fast.
55:19
Frank
It was kind of the same vein about, you know, times. You ever think about, like. No, like, days, like, specific dates could mean have so much significance in the future, but you just don't know it. Yeah, like, I think about, like, times, like, days, like I've met people or like.
55:33
Kieran
Or like the butterfly effect or whatever.
55:35
Frank
Yeah, we're talking about this the other.
55:37
Julia
Day, but just like, you know, that had that effect.
55:40
Frank
I don't remember anyway, but it's just like. To think of, like, I don't know, like, a day in October can mean nothing, but then next year it's like.
55:46
Kieran
Oh, my God, so much.
55:47
Frank
It's like, you know, like. Like this is that, like, I'll have a kid or, like, I'll get married.
55:51
Kieran
Yeah.
55:52
Frank
And it's like, oh, my God. You know, you just never know.
55:55
Kieran
You know what else is significant to me? Having Frank on the podcast today.
55:59
Julia
Thank you for coming.
56:01
Frank
So significant to me, too. This has been a long time coming. Hey, fifth episode. But I.
56:06
Kieran
Significant date for you.
56:07
Frank
It sure was. When will this be out? October 31st. Yes, that'll be a significant. A lot of significant things will be happening that day. And yeah, I'm just so happy to be here. Thank you for having me on the pod with my two favorite co. My co. My co Podders. What are you guys called?
56:23
